Youth Orchestra LA (YOLA) is a Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestra's program, together with its community partners, to provide access to free, high quality intensive instrumental and orchestral education, to students from underserved neighborhoods.
The YOLA Neighborhood Project brings music into the lives over 15,000 community members by creating concentrated networks of musical activity in Los Angeles. Thousands of school children experience music through in-class residenciesand concerts, as well as field-trips to the orchestra's major venues and free concerts performed by LA Phil musicians.
YOLA is inspired by El Sistema, the Venezuelan music education system (see above) that nurtured the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Music Director, Gustavo Dudamel.
